Still lots of ribbon to play with!

So, in case you haven't heard because you didn't read my blog Monday, (OH! the sadness goes straight through me! ;), it is Ribbon Week over at the Paper Popsicles blog. I love ribbon and I know that I am not the only one who does. In fact, I am willing to bet that everyone who reads this has at least one spool of ribbon in their stash. (If you only have one spool, please let me know, I would be happy to help change that number).

It is also Wednesday, which means it it Dippin' Dots Digitals day!!! I was able to use the adorable digital image, Elizabeth in her sailor costume, from the Paper Popsicles store and I love how she works on this card.

I remember being the girl with pigtails and big ribbon bows, so maybe that is why I am so fond of this image. Of course, my pigtails were always brown, but hey, that is just details, right? Honestly, I would have so worn this outfit as a kid. As a matter of fact, I recall two nautical themed outfits of my childhood specifically. And look!!! Not only is Miss Elizabeth sporting some ribbon in her get up, there is some yummy fiber goodness at the bottom of my card too! The light colored ribbon is actually a very pretty pale yellow that my camera didn't pick up well. The blue ribbon is something I found at Michael's in the dollar bins and this is my first cut of it, but I can guarantee it won't be the last. I love how pretty it is.

So I challenge you to make something with ribbon in it and post it over at Paper Popsicles. Really, how hard is it to play with ribbon? There is also a new challenge combining Monday's freebie and ribbon, a challenge I am sure you won't want to miss out on! And don't forget to upload your projects by midnight CST tonight to be entered in the monthly RAK!

Back from the beach!

Hello! It is certainly another Monday, isn't it? I returned home from beautiful, sunny San Diego last night only to wake up to overcast skies and rain today. Ugh. Two things keeping me going is this Friday I will be boarding a plane headed to Arizona, which I am sure will be gorgeous and that it is a new week over at Paper Popsicles. With adorable shaped templates such as these, how can one be gloomy?
As soon as I saw this jar shaped card template, I knew I had to have it. So many possibilities. I am actually thinking of a design using this template made to look like a jar of lightening bugs. But, I digress. This card reads, "Friends... are the treats in life." I used ribbon as the perfect way to "tie" (pun intended) the card together. I am sure I am not alone here, but ribbon seems to be one of those go-to embellishments that adds class, texture, and something that we all have in the stash. Head over to the blog and check out the challenge for this week using ribbon and see the gorgeous designs of my fellow DT members. I love each one. Oh, and there just might be something for free over there too. Ya know, since it IS Moosetrack Monday. Just maybe, like if you click here

One of my favorite pictures from my surprise vacation. My sister standing on Coronado Beach in San Diego, looking west. Just love it.

Careful what you ask for.

So I said vacation and here I am blogging from the absolutely gorgeous San Diego! It was an unexpected trip, but so glad that I am here. In light of all the traveling, I wasn't able to get to posting yesterday, but as I am heading to the beach here in a few, I thought this card would be perfect.

I am sure we can all understand Ethel's sentiments here. I absolutely love this image from Paper Popsicles. Between her bathing suit and her hat, she is just about perfect. And, in case you haven't yet, (why? why, I ask?), the super cute car image packed for vacation is still up for grabs over on the blog. Don't miss it!

Looking for a little vacation?

Over at Paper Popsicles, it is Vacation week! Not sure about you, but the recent sunshine after weeks of rain have left me longing for something a bit more, should we say, tropical? I would settle for balmy at this point. Today is Moosetrack Monday and there is a freebie over on the blog. A freebie that might have something to do with this.

Inside sentiment of this card is "Ready for a rum-cation?" As I mentioned to Tricia, another DT member, I am definitely in the mood for a vacation to somewhere that they put toys in the drinks.

A bunch of things going on.

My sister arrived on Thursday afternoon and I am so excited that she is here. I love having members of my family close. On Friday, I went to the local Scrapbook Expo and after a really bad start to the day, I enjoyed myself. Between classes, I walked the Expo floor and stopped at the Melissa Frances booth. Her stuff is really great, vintage, girly, without being overly cutesy. The booth was offering a make and take, so I figured why not? I told the teacher of the make and take how much my bff, Daniela, loved the Melissa Frances stuff, how she uses it a lot in her projects, blah, blah, blah, only to realize I was ACTUALLY TALKING TO MELISSA FRANCES. Yep, she was teaching the make and take and here I was jabbering away about how awesome she is. So, in honor of Daniela, I took a picture with Melissa, wearing The Art Life shirt. A little cross publicity, right?

For those of you non-Twi-hards that read this blog, bear with me for a minute. Last night at midnight the New Moon DVD was released to the eager public. I was, of course, part of that public. My sis and I went to the "party" at the local Borders, where we played some games and waited with the other obsessed. So, now I am the proud owner of the New Moon DVD. Haven't watched it yet, but it is still nice to know it is in the house. My sister and I represented Team Jacob, loud and proud.

Last, but most certainly not least, Paper Popsicles and Cheeky Radish have a bunch of fun things going on. First, you simply MUST check out what fellow DT Member, Callie, did with the marshmallow bunny shaped card template. It is SO sweet, it almost gives me a toothache. I LOVE it. Also, when the Cheeky Radish group at SNR Card Universe hits 100 members there will be a FREE exclusive digi image AND shaped template. These are so exclusive, even the DT hasn't seen them yet. So, please become a member so we can all get this free goodness. Being a member of SNR Card Universe is great as well, because of the weekly challenges and inspiration you will find there, especially in the very talented Cheeky Radish group. And don't forget that there is still the weekly Easter theme this week and the monthly RAK is still up for grabs. The more you play, the more chances to win!

Before I run in the sun

I want to post two quick things. First, it was Dippin' Dot Digitals over at Paper Popsicles yesterday and Tricia showed off some INCREDIBLE wedding invites using a shaped card template from the Paper Popsicles store. They are so simple and classic, I wish I was getting married again just so I could use them.

Second, I wanted to post this layout I did last night for the My Mind's Eye challenge. I love their sketch challenges and their products, so each time I get to play along, I am really happy.
Y'all may get tired of seeing this picture of us, since this is the second page I scrapped it on, but it just went perfectly with this page, so I had to roll with it. Plus, it was already printed out. I am sure we have all done that before, right? Don't leave me hanging here....

Moosetrack Monday!!!

And boy is it a cutie! Head over to Paper Popsicles to grab this adorable FREE image, just in time for Easter.

Yes, I said FREE. AND it is so cute, I just had to stay up tonight to color it in. I think Mama Bun looks downright fab, but Wee Bun needs a wardrobe update to something a little more springy.

**Edited to note: I used markers on this image. The Buns are colored with Copics, Wee Bun's dress is from these way old school markers I don't recall the name of, and Mama Bun's dress is done with fine tip Sharpies, which are my second choice to Copics.**

While you are at Paper Popsicles, check out this week's theme which goes perfectly with The Buns and remember, every time you create something from Paper Popsicles and post it on the blog, it is another chance to win that yummy monthly prize for March!!!

Meet the Narcissists!

So, it is finally the 15th and today is the submission day. Whew! I will be doing a last haul to the finish line. In the meantime, here are some photos that we took today. I needed a specific picture for a layout, so we got dressed up and headed onto the back porch. I worked with dear Hubby on how to take photos, because frankly, I am getting tired of taking my own pictures. It is a dangerous combination, me setting the shot, hitting the timer, and then running into position. And once you see the shoes I was sporting for these photos, you will agree, running wasn't the best idea.

This was the photo I needed for the layout. See the shoes? Definitely not going to break any of Bolt's records in those babies. (But they are hot, aren't they!?!?!) I changed this picture to black and white, which looks really cool on the modern layout I did.

These two are my favorites of my hubby. He is such a cutie and I love his new shirt! Not sure I have mentioned how happy I am that he is not afraid of color?

Then I asked him to lean against the railing on our porch. He looked at me as if I was crazy and exclaimed, "But it is dirty!" Sigh. You can take the boy out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the boy. Instead, I got this shot, which I am calling his Napolean shot.

Don't ask. So, I handed my baby over to my hubby and this is what I got from him with minimal coaching on my part.

I really like this one, but the shadows were being a real pain. Anyone ever used a software that might enhance those out? Just curious.

And last, one of me showing him how to lean on that dirty ol' railing. In satin. Guess you can take the girl out of the country, but not the dirt roads out of the girl!

I think he did a pretty good job, plus there were no injuries due to footwear. I am sure our neighbors think we are two of the most narcissistic people in the world, but we think they walk like a herd of elephants, so I guess we are even.

You may notice a new blinkie

That's right. I am a designer for Cheeky Radish and Paper Popsicles!!! I am very excited at this chance to work with these fabulous ladies again. Their digital stamps and shaped cards are so much fun to work with, plus you can size to whatever fits your design needs AND they take up no storage space in the scraproom!!! How can you not love that? So, just quick before I scamper back into the Squirrel Hole, if you haven't already, head over to Paper Popsicles and check out what is going on. There is still a chance to enter for this great blog candy!

Also, there is a great prize full of Sassafras Lass for the month of March. The more you play in the challenges during the month, the more times you will be entered to win the March prize.

Five down, five to go, & four days to do it

I just finished the fifth layout for the book publication submission. Well, finished is the relative term for it. The layout itself is completed, but I need to take the photo, print it, and then pop it onto the layout. Whew! Half way there and four more days to go to finish the last five I want to submit.

All this time inside is actually perfect timing. While the sun has been shining beautifully here in the Bay Area, but it hasn't been warm. Plus, my skin looks like I just hit puberty. Till I smile and then the laugh lines cause a total facial contradiction and cause me to pull a facial contortion. I guess this is my punishment for having clear skin all through my actual puberty and teen years.

As I have been telling my friends and family. If you are nice, the troll might come out from under her bridge to play. If you are nice.

Ten things that make me happy

Uh-oh, two posts in one day, look out.

Susan of Susan's Little Scraps, who I swear is related to me in at least some obscure way because she totally has my sense of humor and shares my love of kitch, passed this award onto me. Again, I normally avoid these things, but how wonderful is it to take a moment and say at least 10 things that make you happy? And, I would do just about anything for that girl, so here goes...

10. A glass of good wine.

9. The smell of grunge paper, leather, coconut, fresh coffee, freshly cut wood, and the desert after a summer rain.

8. Good hair days that coincide with good skin days that coincide with good outfit days.

7. Traveling.

6. Blankets. One can never have too many blankets.

5. Vintage items, especially quilts, fabulous dresses, shoes, purses, hats, and glamorous furniture.

4. Costume jewelry.

3. The ocean. In the summer, I love the warmth from the sand and the sun on the waves, in the winter I love the turbulence and the grays. I would live near the ocean if it was only my choice.

2. The true ring of a child's laughter.

1. A hot shower or bath.

I decided to keep this purely on the top level and purposefully left out all those fabulous loved ones who are in my world. I will pass this onto some of you, but will contact you on the DL in case you don't want to play along. ;P

*Edited because in a completely typical, but still utterly bonehead moment, I forgot to put in the link to Susan's awesome blog. Please forgive me, Susan!?!?*

That sneaky holiday, cheap bling, a card, and a RAK!!!

As some of you may know, Valentine's Day is officially my favorite holiday, but there is another holiday that I just LOVE. Unfortunately, it always seems to sneak up on me and I never get to decorate for it. Not this year. I got you St. Patty's Day!!! It isn't much, but I made a banner using the shaped card template from Paper Popsicles that was a freebie and Little Yellow Bicycle papers. I would like to point out the rosettes behind the letters. This is a first time making these and I love them. I have seen them on blogs and thought I would take a crack at it. They are so cute and super simple.

So this will be hanging across my mantle, along with the few Easter things I have out right now. Here is something else I created for Paper Popsicles. This sweet image was one of their recent freebies, (gotta love the free, right?!?!), and this week's theme is "HOME." It seemed to be the perfect match for this card, which in case you can't read my janky handwriting: "Home is where your song begins."

Remember the RAK I mentioned in the title? Well, just in case all my mentions of 'free" didn't send you rushing over to Paper Popsicles, this will.

Who wouldn't want to win all that goodness? And you can, simply head over to the blog and check out the details. While you are there, look at the fun challenges the ladies have going on and play along.

The other night while working on a layout, I pulled out some (ahem) inexpensive adhesive bling swirls. Well, when it came time to place the bling, I learned a tough lesson. There is a reason it was .99 cents. I fought with those little swirlies for way too long! They wouldn't lay right, they curled in on themselves, they lost stones, it was no fun. So, I will faithfully buy good bling and pay the extra dinero for it simply because I know when I need it to, it will work.

Love when something works!!

So I had this vision the other night while I should have been sleeping. Shrinky-dink Twilight characters using the Greeting Farm stamps! So, last night I was up until 2am trying desperately to find my unopened package of Shriny-dink paper. To no avail. But this morning, I got up and went to the craft store, bought some Shrinky-dink paper, and an hour an a half later, TA-DA!!!

Now these are the prototypes.  I need to work on the coloring, but I am so excited at how cute they are!!! Here is what I have done with them and I plan to wear them proudly tonight to the crop.

Even better is that you can put this paper into your printer, so that means I can print out the dressy versions of the Cullens via the Greeting Farms digital images!

A quick project, then back to work

As I mentioned yesterday, what I am working on right now isn't stuff I can really share. (Thank you, Mara, for your sweet and encouraging words. It means a lot, especially coming from someone as talented as yourself.) Last night, I did make this super cute project my friend Daniela gave me. She actually did this as a Make and Take at a local scrap store. Can you believe how cute this is? I must ask her where these papers came from. Anyways, I couldn't resist this photo of my niece. With blue eyes and a gummy grin like that, I am putty for this kid. I love my brother, but am so glad Cady-Bird inherited her mommy's beautiful blue peepers!

This now hangs above my scrap desk for inspiration. It is had to tell in this photo, but the red ribbon actually says "love" in pretty script. I even had left overs from this to add to other projects. That is one of the many reasons I love Daniela and her Art Life projects. She includes so much fabulous product that even an embellie heavy nut such as myself always has left overs.

Okay, back to the scrap room I go!

I am working

though at the moment, I have nothing to show here for my work. I am currently working on some layouts for a book call and they have to be never before seen/published. It is really hard to make these and not be able to post them. Honestly, my hubby is great, but there is a different understanding between me and my scrappy pals when it comes to creations. I know when I post something and get a bunch of comments, I was on the right track. I appreciate the feedback. So, I should know by the end of the month if I am to be published and if I am not, you see a bunch of new layouts hit all at once.
