!!!200 Posts!!!

Holy wow, 200! I know for some who have hit the thousand mark that doesn't seem like much but for me, it is huge.

I am going to showcase a(nother) mini that I recently finished featuring my Grandma. I am sure I have mentioned it, but my Grandma was very much a part of my early life, helping my mom raise me. Grandma's love is something that I will carry for the rest of my life because she is a huge part of who I am today. It took me years after her loss to really look at photos of her or actually allow the memories to sink in. I avoided it for so long because it hurt so bad. I am getting stronger in baby steps and this mini is one of those steps. It took me almost two years to finish this.
I love the photo on the right espcially because it has my Grandma, my mom, and my great-grandma or G.G. in it and all three of these amazing women raised me.
You can't really tell, but in the photo on the left, she is wearing red Keds. I have always had a penchant for red shoes, I wonder if it is hereditary?
My favorite page of the book. These were some of her best colors and I love this senior picture of her. She looks so beautiful. My mom tells the story that while you can't see it, the back of Grandma's hair was dark brown. Such a rebel!

Yep, that is little ole me at about 4. We were in Pismo Beach, I believe.

This last one was probably the hardest for me in a way. Grandma is standing on a corner in San Francisco. I know exactly where it is and I could be there in less than an hour. But even if I flew, it would be empty...

Just for giggles, I figured I would share what a typical Lora-esque mini looks like from the side. There is no chance of ever getting it to lie flat or close like normal. I never worry about the placement of embellishments, much to my own chagrin at times. And the Siamese cat? Grandma had them for all the years I knew her. I have a very weak spot for those particular persnickety furballs.

Okay, so enough with the sap and onto the giveaway, right? That is why you are really here isn't it? ;P  All kidding aside, I have a USPS box that I have been packing with "extra" supplies. These are things that are perfectly usable, but I know in my heart that I will never use them. I also know for a fact that there are 6 craft books in there. Beyond that, it is anyone's guess. Leave a comment today telling me your favorite song right now and you will be entered. I will draw from the comments next week and contact the winner for their address. I will pay for S&H as long as you are in the U.S. If you are International, I will ask you pay for S&H.

  2. First and foremost, this book is brilliant and digs at my internal workings. I loved this woman as well and I think she would have loved your mini book as well. I want a copy of that senior picture. I'm collecting images to do a huge photo collage of family (like the collage you posted I think maybe two posts ago.)

My favorite song at the moment is a toss up between "Good Day" by Jewel and "Hey You" by Pink Floyd. You have no idea how much mental anguish went into narrowing it down to just two songs lol. Where ever did I get this love of music?

And red shoes... I think its hereditary... very hereditary. : )

  4. Congrats on the 200 hits! I love the book of Grandmom, wow, I can see she was a wonderful woman from the look on her face. I like the way you did the side view of the book, a hint of all the things to view. I don't like when people ask me what song is my fav, b/c I can't even give a top 10 b/c they say one and I say, yes, that's it...but I do like Jar of Hearts.

  5. Wow, congrats and way to go on the 200 posts, Lora! Just goes to show how many wonderful crafty/scrappy bits you have to share!
Your mini is beatiful, as was your grandma. I can understand what an emotional undertaking this project was for you. I hope completing it has helped your heart heal a little more...it is certainly a worthy and wonderful memorial to someone you held so dear.
Oh my, I'm going to start crying if I don't stop here!
Anyways, I'm with Elaine....making me pick one song is just not fair. But thanks to one of the quotes in your mini, You Make Me Smile by Uncle Kracker is stuck in my head, and I'm ok with that.

Absolutely LOVE your G-ma mini. I recognize most of your background papers. Aren't they marvelous?! Chunky is so good too.

Lead Me by Sanctus is by far my fav right now. Thanks for giving away so much of your stuff.

  7. Lora - this is just utterly beautiful and heartwarming. I know that loss and why it can take so long to come to a place where you feel you are able to finally look at the pics. I've wanted to create a mini in tribute to my mom for a while now. I bought it, covered it with pp but that's all I can do. Just looking at pics breaks me into tears.

I felt your love of your grandma in your mini. Your beautiful work is a testament to the depth of the emotion involved where she is concerned. It's a such lovely book and the greatest compliment I can give you is I'm going scraplift a few of the things you did.

Congrats on the 200 posts! I look forward to seeing more.

My fav song right now is Colder Weather by the Zac Brown Band.

As far as a favorite song right now, I'm going with God Moves Through You, sung by Jason Mraz with words based on Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet".
